We just got back from our first trip to Arizona together in almost two years… who knew that our next time home we would have a sweet baby boy! Kai finally got to meet his Papa, Uncle Jake & Auntie Alex, and his great grandparents… even his great-great grandmother. Obviously we went home to introduce Kai, but we were also there for my dad’s 50th surprise birthday party! WOO HOO! He was so excited & it is so special that the three of us were able to be apart of it. Oh, how I have missed all the chaos of home.
I get so emotional driving through that town because prior to living in Hawaii, that was the only place I really knew. My favorite Target is there, the best lattes are made at the drive-thru Starbucks right down the street, the only place in the world where a pizza cookie can bring actual tears of joy to your eyes is there. All of our family is there. Hello, we fell in love there. In the Lifetime Fitness parking lot for goodness sake. Or was it over one of our countless pizza cookie dates? 😉
It was refreshing to have a “break” from our typical day-to-day, but it is nice to be back in our home and our routine. Once we were home and readjusting to the time zone difference and Kai still wasn’t sleeping through the night, I was frustrated. And exhausted. So we made the choice to put him in his crib, in his own room and guess what? We’ve only had three nights of him waking up to eat. So I’d call that a total win because it was such a simple change. Thankfully there was no real transition period. I put him in his crib for two naps on the first day, he put himself to sleep each time and we put him in his crib at bedtime, he put himself to sleep again, and the rest is history.
Some of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I run my very own virtual skincare business! I launched it almost a year ago and it has continued to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I am a consultant for Rodan+Fields, the #1 Premium Skincare company in the US! I saw the opportunity and decided to run with it. I mean, it isn’t everyday that a billion dollar brand lets you benefit from what they’ve created…just imagine what it would look like if Kate Spade or Tory Burch gave you a piece of their pie? WELL FRIENDS, this is even better. I have been provided the constant opportunity to expand my network, meet new friends, empower other women, and most importantly, help people look good and feel good in their own skin. Nothing is more rewarding than that.
I took a short break right before Kai was born and as we have both been transitioning and trying to establish a routine. I am so excited to announce that I am back in business! AND I also wanted to share with you a brand new product that launched during my time off — ACTIVE HYDRATION BODY REPLENISH! For those of you who have used the Active Hydration Serum, then you kind of already know. This is the same, but for your entire body! This hydrating moisturizer promotes smooth, glowing skin. It is a real breakthrough body moisturizing cream, as it delivers immediate and continuous body hydration which results in skin that looks younger and acts younger. An actual dream! Make sure you are following my social media accounts, because there are big things coming and I can’t even stand how excited I am!
I wanted to say a quick, but ever so heartfelt thank you to each of you who has supported me as I have pursued this small business of mine. I feel so blessed to be in this position and to be doing exactly what I love while still being present with the people that I love.
I was driving the struggle bus for a while there, as I am sure most new mom’s do. In the past few weeks I have felt more comfortable in my role as a mom and with that, I have been able to figure out how to do the things that I love while still being Kai’s mom. I don’t have to choose to “sleep when the baby sleeps” anymore and that has a lot to do with Kai sleeping through the night, but even more to do with my mindset. I started to feel drained and I wanted something more (as if having a newborn isn’t enough) — but the two of us are on our own all day during the week, so we have gotten into a routine that works for both of us. I get to work during nap time & catch up on the to-do list and when Kai is awake, we play with our toys, chat, eat, practice sitting up, and of course watch Gilmore Girls.
It is a true blessing to be able to stay at home with this boy and do what I love. I owe that to my sweet husband who works so hard and so selflessly every day so that we can have everything that we need/want. His promotion to Sergeant has been nothing but late nights and added stress, but we are forever grateful for him, his sacrifice, and the way he takes care of us.
I have been planning blog posts, running my skincare business, getting ready for another trip to AZ, and trying to intentionally practice self-love & self-care. Everyday. I am so consumed by my two boys, and while they will always be my priority, I do forget to take care of myself and from there it’s one thing after another, but I always come to realize that I can’t take care of anyone if I am not taking care of myself. So, here’s to taking better care of myself in all aspects & loving these two boys with all of my heart.
