How in the world has it already been four months!?
I still cannot believe that I get to be the mom to this sweet little boy. Other parents, including my own, have always told me how fast this goes and now I see it happening right before my eyes. He looks bigger to me every time he wakes up from a nap. When he insists on being carried at the store instead of riding in his stroller, he feels so much heavier. I take out his new clothes and before I can cut the tags off, he has already grown out of them. That may be a little dramatic, but you get it…
This mom thing is no joke. Actually, this parenting thing is no joke. Gauge & I have certainly learned to laugh through all the things because we’d lose our minds if we didn’t. But most of the time we have to take turns laughing. This has been another couple months of learning and adapting. We made the bold choice to sort of randomly move Kai into his own room and for a while that was the best choice we’ve ever made, but as the story goes, when you finally get used to something, it changes. We’ve had some good nights, but we’ve also had some really bad nights…we’re talking worse than nights with a newborn. Sigh. He has started showing signs of teething though, so that has made our routine and sleeping habits a little more challenging.
Kai has started engaging with his toys and his stuffed animals and it is the sweetest thing to watch. He intentionally talks and laughs and wow my heart. We stopped giving him his binky during the day, but we keep one in his crib just in case; some nights he needs it, some nights he doesn’t. About 2 weeks ago, he taught himself to roll from his back to his tummy and we realized that isn’t something most babies can do until about five months. Big boy alert! His favorite toys right now are his yellow puppy ‘Biscuit’, his musical puppy/bear (this thing is a puppy, but up until a week ago I’ve been calling it a bear because it sits up like a teddy bear LOL), and his bacon teether. Of course like every other child, he loves anything that isn’t a toy. He is fascinated with t-shirts, pens, and my bright orange water bottle.
He loves anything that makes him feel like a big boy… standing on our laps, sitting on the couch “by himself”, looking in the mirror… it’s so dang cute. I have been waiting for the day he was able to find himself in the mirror and actually appreciate it. He can keep himself pretty occupied most days, but he would prefer to have someone laying next to him, playing with him at all times… oh the joys! He is definitely a mama’s boy, but he is mesmerized by his dad. He will sit there and stare at Gauge, laughing and smiling, trying to get his full attention.
Bath time is still our favorite time and we just finished watching Gilmore Girls all the way through… sad day. But seriously you guys, he would sit there and actually watch TV with me every morning and when he would hear the theme song, he would legit smile. We love us some Lorelai Gilmore! 😉
This morning at his 4 month check up, he weighed 16.31lbs. and is 25.79 inches long! He is growing like a weed & all of his behaviors have put him in the 6 month category… my mom heart is crying, but he is thriving! Looking back at his newborn photos I already can’t believe how much he has changed.
This has been another season of firsts and there has been so much more learning and growing. You don’t realize how fast it goes until it’s happening to you. He is already quite a handful so I can’t imagine what these next few months will bring, but I am so ready! As I see his little personality shine through more and more each day I pray for the boy and the man he will become. My heart aches at how much I love him, I can’t begin to put it into words.
